77. Wie ich mich selber kurierte

On 21 June 1889 I drove from Vienna from noon to Bruck. I used to go directly to Graz, where I was staying always a few days, in at the couple John and Elise Wawrinek.      Im Auftrag des Herrn Karl Kreft in Graz hatte ich sogleich für den Notar Schönstein im Cillier Kreise 300 Kuverts für Sparkassenbüchl zu machen. Für Herrn Gmeiner in Bruck machte ich 100 Sparkassenbüchlkuverts und 80 lange Kuverts. Dem Kaufmann Hatzmann in Thörl hatte ich 1100 Kuverts gemacht, und bei den Sommerfrischlern in Aflenz habe ich einige Pakete angebracht. (188) Seit ich hier bin, habe ich bis Ende 1889 21054 Kuverts verkauft.

     Wegen mehrfacher Beschäftigungen an der Fortsetzung meiner Erlebnisse verhindert, kam ich erst am 24. Juni 1890 zum Weiterschreiben. In einem Brief an Karl Kreft über die Sendung der Kuverts nach Schönstein ersuchte ich ihn um fernere Aufträge. Zu meinem Bedauern jedoch las ich in der Zeitung von seinem Ableben im 59. Lebensjahre. Mir war es sehr leid um ihn, da ich ihm sehr viele Kuverts brachte.

     Für die Tombola am Sylvesterabend machte ich wieder eine grosse Schachtel mit 27 kleineren Schachteln, dann einen zierlichen Wandkorb, und gab noch ein Bild in Goldrahmen «Residenzplatz in Salzburg» dazu und deklamierte wie gewöhnlich ein Paar Stücke.

Von Anfang Winter liess der Herr Bezirksrichter, Herr Dr. Eduard Neuhold in unserem Obstgarten eine Eisbahn errichten, auf welcher sich die Herren Beamten, Geistlichen und mehrere Bürger, so lange das Eis anhielt, sich mit Eisschiessen trefflich unterhielten.

Wegen Preiserhöhung der Zigarren gewöhnten sich mehrere Raucher an Tabakspfeifen. Aber sogleich griff ich nach der Holzsäge und schnitt mehrere dicke Scheiter durch mit aller Kraft, so dass ich enorm ins Schwitzen kam. Wieder nahm ich ein frisches Hemd, und das Übel war ganz weg. Währenddem kämpften manche Familien wochenlang dagegen an, so dass selbst die Ärzte wegen Überanstrengung marod wurden. Bezüglich meines qualvollen Whooping cough and convulsions I was waiting with Sehsucht that in the nearby woods, the young spruce shoots come forth.
